Who are you?
I would describe myself to be creative, and reserved. In my songs, I am both the male and female vocals, and I have turned it into my very own play compressed into music. In my '917' album, specifically 'Not It', I am a male in the song rapping. You may be wondering how this is possible that I am 1) a girl, and 2) referencing 'Lonely Nights'. For one, I already have a husky voice. Who doesn't want to use that to their advantage? I am also multi-genre. I created the beat using a synth keyboard, reversed the track, and pitched it down. In another song, 'Mangolia', I created a Mongolian-inspired rhythm to match the name and also the lyrics. The song is about this guy who kept harassing my family under the name 'Albert Mango', and I had a few puns in mind while making the song, therefore coming up with 'Mango-lia'. Now, despite wanting my music to be out there, I myself am not someone who wants to be in everyone's face: like the girl everyone knows at school, but is not exactly popular; she just carries a sense of acknowledgement that people understand.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Harlem, NY. Music is not only the foundation of Harlem but is what has brought the Manhattan community together for decades starting from the Harlem Renaissance, continuing on an upward trend of unity. Though it is quite competitive in the music world, there is a level of respect that makes New York stand out from any other place. From the train dancers to your next-neighbor releasing drill music, music is engraved into what these streets are about. No matter what genre you like, or your cultural background, you will find yourself bopping your head to the music in your local deli or dancing to the saxophone player in Columbus Circle; it's not about the song itself, but the vibe it brings: joy, love, hate. It is a beautiful mixture of so many things.
How can we follow you?
As of right now, my music is streaming on BandLab and SoundCloud. Feel free to show some love, leave me some feedback, anything! I appreciate everyone who has interacted with my music so far and I am more than grateful for how far 'Subway Serenade' has reached in under a week. Truly, my heart goes out to everyone.
